MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two men were killed and seven other people were injured Saturday night after a shooting at an “unpermitted” block party in Orange Mound, according to video and reports.
Initially, Interim Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis said 16 people were shot but the department has since updated that number to nine because “we believe the error occurred with several victims being reported multiple times.”
Officers responded to the shooting just before 7:20 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024, on the 2400 block of Carnes Avenue.
Police said up to 300 people were at a block party at Orange Mound Park that was not permitted by the city.
Video footage shows people gathered around a basketball court watching a car doing donuts when gunfire erupts. It then shows people diving for cover.
On Sunday, police said that all seven victims were in stable condition.
No arrests have been made but Davis said that her department identified at least two potential shooters.
