TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Two people were killed and multiple others are hospitalized following a shooting Thursday on Florida State University’s campus.
The suspect who opened fire at FSU was identified by law enforcement officials as the 20-year-old son of a sheriff’s deputy.
His mother, Jessica Ikner, is a sheriff’s deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, Phoenix Ikner allegedly opened fire on the main campus of FSU, shooting multiple individuals near the Student Union building.
When officers arrived, they immediately engaged Ikner before shooting and apprehending him, police said.
Police said two people – who are not students – were killed, and six others were transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds.
Phoenix Ikner was also transported to a local hospital, police said.
Police said Phoenix Ikner invoked his rights not to speak with authorities.
