Nashville police release body cam video of fatal shooting at Smile Direct Club
ANTIOCH, Tennessee — The Metro Nashville Police Department released body cam video from officers who responded to a shooting at Smile Direct Club Tuesday morning.
Metro Police said the suspect, a dayshift employee identified as 22-year-old Antonio D. King, walked into the Smile Direct Club factory in Antioch shortly before 6am Tuesday — and shot a manager and two security guards.
Security guard Johnny Hardin, 46, was being treated at a hospital in critical condition Tuesday afternoon while security guard Carlton Watson, 66, is in stable condition.
54-year-old manager Thomas Abbott was treated at a hospital and released, police said.
Bodycam video of the incident shows MNPD officers commanding King to drop his weapon after spotting him on Antioch Pike and Franklin Limestone Road.
Instead King pointed his gun at police, and officers fired.
King was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
MNPD identified the officers involved in the shooting as Dylan Ramos and Cherelle Kinchoe, both relatively new to the police force.
While authorities did not release a motive for the shooting, they said King worked at the Smile Direct Club factory from late 2019 to 2020 and recently started working there again in June this year.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
