Police release video of officer-involved shooting that left Allen Mirzayan dead in Altadena

Police released video of an officer-involved shooting that left 48-year-old Allen Mirzayan dead in Altadena last January.

The video released Sunday by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shows the fatal shooting after Mirzayan beat and stabbed an elderly woman in a seemingly random attack in Altadena last January.

Footage shows a shirtless Mirzayan, described as a US Army veteran from Pasadena, walk up to the woman and knock her to the ground.

The video then shows Mirzayan kicking and stabbing the woman for no apparent reason before crossing the street.

A witness flagged down a passing deputy and pointed out Mirzayan, who was standing in the street while still holding the knife, officials said in a press release Sunday.

Officials said Mirzayan then began attacking the side of the deputy’s SUV with the knife, at times also holding the blade to his own throat.

Two additional deputies arrived at the scene and tried to detain Mirzayan, who can be seen approaching the deputies while carrying the knife, the video shows.

“Despite repeated commands by deputies to drop the knife, Mirzayan advanced toward the deputies with the knife and a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” according to the release.

Mirzayan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The elderly woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of stab wounds and a broken hip.

A motive for the alleged stabbing was not clear.
