Uber driver assaulted by passenger in Darien, Connecticut

CONNECTICUT — Newly released video shows the moment an Uber driver was assaulted by a passenger in Darien.

The incident that unfolded on August 27 was captured by the victim on dash cam video.

It started out as a normal pick up in Downtown Stamford for Sijo George, with two male passengers in two different drop-off locations, just before midnight.

There was minimal interaction until both passengers left the vehicle at the first stop at Tulip Tree Lane in Darien, prompting George to ask questions about the second drop-off location.

That’s when one of the passengers began asking to see George’s driver’s license and within seconds, the situation turned violent.

Video shows the passenger leaning into the car while punching George, who is heard yelling and calling out for help throughout the incident.

As the two continued to struggle, the video shows the passenger opening George’s door and kicking him.

The man then punched George several times in the side of the head while trying to grab something from inside of the car, the footage shows.

The passenger eventually fled the scene but only to return moments later and attack George once again.

Why the passenger wanted George’s license remains unclear.

George was able to call 911 at the scene.

Darien police said the passenger fled the scene before officers arrived and could not be located.

He has since been identified by police and the incident is under investigation.
