3 civilians killed, 2 officers injured in Farmington mass shooting

FARMINGTON, New Mexico — According to Farmington Police, a gunman shot and killed 3 civilians and wounded 2 police officers. Four other people were also injured in the mass shooting.

The suspect confronted police and was killed.

An officer with the Farmington Police Department and another from New Mexico State police were both wounded during the course of the incident. They were taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington for treatment.

According to a statement from police chief Steve Hebbe, the gunman used at least three different weapons, including an AR-15-style rifle.

Hebbe said the suspect also fired shots at several homes and cars.

The only information released by police on the suspect’s identity is that he was 18 years old.

The Farmington Police Department, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, and ATF are investigating the incident.
