88-year-old jeweler hospitalized following smash-and-grab robbery in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. – An 88-year-old jewelry store owner was injured Friday in a violent smash-and-grab robbery in San Jose.

It happened at Kim Hung Jewelry on the 1900 block of Aborn Road.

Surveillance video shows a car plowing through the front of the store before more than a dozen suspects stormed inside. The group smashed display cases and grabbed jewelry while one of them shoved the elderly owner to the ground.

The victim reportedly suffered cuts from broken glass and a stroke during the attack — and is now recovering.

Officials estimate the damage to the store and stolen merchandise totals between $50,000 and $100,000.

Police say the suspects fled in multiple vehicles. No arrests have been made.
