An app driver and a passenger were shot to death by a gunman in Brazil.
“A ride-hailing app driver and a passenger were shot dead as they stopped their vehicle on Monday (24).The crime took place on Rua Nascente, in the Icaraí neighborhood, in Caucaia , metropolitan region of Fortaleza . The crime was recorded by a security camera.
In the video, it is possible to see that a man was waiting at the scene where the crime took place. He was the one who shot the victims. When the car stopped, the man spoke to the occupants before starting to shoot.
According to information the passenger was a 19-year-old man who was wearing an electronic ankle bracelet. The Ceará Ride-Hailing Drivers Association (AMAP CE) reported that the dead driver is Rafael Santos da Silva. He was 36 years old. According to the organization, he was not the target of the criminal, but ended up being hit. This version, however, has not been confirmed by the Civil Police.
Rafal lived in Cascavel, also in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza. The trip left the city towards Caucaia, according to the driver’s wife. She said that the trip was not made through an app, but rather on an individual basis.
Rafael and the passenger arranged the ride after the driver was recommended by a colleague. However, the driver’s wife said that the colleague did not know the passenger. The woman was tracking the car using the location shared by Rafael. However, at a certain point the location stopped working. She sent him messages and called him several times, but the driver did not answer.
The Public Security Department reported that the Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the double homicide. Teams from the Military Police, Forensic Experts and the Homicide and Personal Protection Department (DHPP) were called and carried out investigations at the scene.
The agency said that the investigative work is being carried out by the Metropolitan Police Station of Caucaia, which is trying to elucidate the case, as well as identify and capture the suspects involved in the crime.”
