On May 18, Baltimore County deputies responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire and a mental health crisis in the 8200 block of North Boundary Road. Body-worn camera footage of the incident was released on June 18 by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID).
The footage shows Deputy Michael Brady locating 43-year-old Glenn Pettie Jr. in an alley behind the residence. Deputies repeatedly ordered Pettie to “drop the gun.” The video captures Pettie firing at Brady, who returned fire.
Deputies immediately provided life-saving aid until emergency medical services arrived. Pettie was taken to the hospital, where he later died. A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene. No deputy was injured.
The IID continues to investigate the shooting to determine whether the use of lethal force was justified. Witnesses and anyone with additional information have been urged to contact the IID.
