Bicyclist steals lawnmower from man’s garage in Ohio

BOARDMAN, Ohio — A man’s Ring security camera picked up an unusual theft this week, and police have already identified a suspect.

Neal Kortes spoke with First News after a thief stole his lawnmower out of his garage and made their getaway on a bicycle. Below are photos of the suspect and the stolen lawnmower.

Kortes said when he came home on Wednesday, something looked off in his garage, prompting him to go back and check his security footage. And sure enough, around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, a man can be seen rummaging through Kortes’ detached garage at his home on Prestwick Drive.

“I scrolled back and the day before, a guy on a bike just decided to drive, you know, right up my driveway, right into my garage and just helped himself to my lawnmower,” Kortes said.

He suspects the thief also tried to take his pressure washer after he noticed it had been moved, but that the suspect eventually settled for just the lawnmower.

When asked if he had a message for the thief, Kortes said:

“Get a job, quit taking people’s stuff that they work hard for. I mean, literally, springtime’s coming around. I need to cut my grass this weekend for the first time and now I’ve got to go out to spend $300-400, maybe even $500, on a lawnmower — something I wasn’t planning on doing. Respect people’s property.”

He’s lived in the house for 13 years and said this is the first time he’s had any issues.

“I’m just kind of shocked that it happened and how brazen he was, was just stunning.”

The Boardman detective investigating the case say the suspect has been identified.
