BAKERSFIELD, CA — On May 9, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on the 600 block of Water Street at approximately 6:30 a.m., involving a man armed with a hammer, machete, and firearm.
A woman said she had been shot by the suspect.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they located 42-year-old Sadi Geovani Diaz, who allegedly brandished a gun which led to an officer-involved shooting.
A woman had initially called, who reported being shot by the suspect. She was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Diaz and a female victim were transported to the hospital. He was later arrested and faces charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary, assault on a peace officer, and carrying a loaded firearm without registration.
A deputy was also shot in the hand after Diaz fired while on the ground.
An incident review board determined that the shooting was within the agency’s policies.
