MIAMI, Fla. — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that left one man dead following a traffic stop in Miami-Dade. Body camera footage of the incident has been released.
The shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m. after deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) pulled over a yellow vehicle near NW 62nd Street and NW 22nd Avenue for illegal window tints. The driver fled, prompting the MDSO Aviation Support Unit to track the vehicle in real time.
The chase ended at an apartment complex near NW 4th Court and NW 85th Street Road, where the driver exited the vehicle armed and advanced toward deputies. Deputy Kelvin Cox, a 23-year veteran of the force, opened fire, fatally striking the man. The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.
