Bodycam shows deadly shootout with arson suspect in St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. — Authorities have released video footage of a deadly officer-involved shooting that occurred July 15 after a man reportedly set fire to three homes and opened fire on deputies.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office published a compilation of bodycam and dashcam footage showing the confrontation with 57-year-old Adam Clinton Wolf of Normanna Township. Deputies responded to reports that Wolf had doused a family member with gasoline and set their home — as well as a neighbor’s — on fire. He was later seen armed and traveling the area on a riding lawnmower.

As deputies approached, video shows Wolf firing a gun. All five responding deputies immediately returned fire, with one shooting through a truck windshield. Wolf was struck multiple times. Officers rendered medical aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later recovered a firearm, shell casings, and 12 improvised shotgun-style devices. The deputies involved — Sgt. Zachary Peterson, Deputy Charles Bennett, Deputy Matt Miranda, Deputy Forest Lunemann, and Deputy Michael Pikul — are on standard critical incident leave. All had at least three years of law enforcement experience.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident, and findings will be submitted to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office.
