NATAL, Brazil — A 35-year-old woman was brutally attacked by her boyfriend inside an elevator in her apartment building in the Ponta Negra neighborhood of Natal. The assault, captured on surveillance video, occurred Saturday afternoon, July 26, and has led to the man’s arrest for attempted femicide.
Elevator footage shows the couple arguing before the man suddenly begins punching the woman repeatedly after the doors close. Authorities say she was struck at least 60 times, leaving her face bloodied and severely injured.
A security guard monitoring the cameras contacted police, and residents restrained the attacker when the elevator reached the ground floor. The victim was hospitalized with multiple facial fractures and is scheduled to undergo surgery.
The suspect remains in pretrial detention following a court hearing. According to a friend of the victim, the assault was sparked by a jealous outburst from the boyfriend.
