BRONX, NY — A 38-year-old man was fatally shot following a street dispute in the Melrose section of the Bronx on Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. near Trinity Avenue and East 149th Street. The victim, identified as Victor Bautista, was shot once in the chest during an altercation with another man.
Video obtained from the scene shows bystanders attempting to assist Bautista, who was lying on the sidewalk following the shooting. One individual performed chest compressions while others called for emergency services. Police arrived shortly after and took over medical efforts. Bautista was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Security footage from a nearby business shows the victim and the suspect engaged in a physical altercation. The video appears to show Bautista striking the man, followed by a struggle. The suspect then fired a single shot before fleeing the scene on foot.
The suspect remains at large, and police have not yet released a description. The investigation is ongoing.
