Calumet City police SUV stolen as officers search for carjacking suspects
ILLINOIS — A police SUV was stolen as officers searched for carjacking suspects near a gas station in Calumet City Tuesday morning.
At approximately 6:20am, police were dispatched to a gas station on Sibley Boulevard near the Bishop Ford Freeway to investigate an attempted carjacking, Calumet City police spokesman Sean Howard said.
When officers arrived at the scene, four suspects ran off in different directions. As officers searched the area, one of the suspects returned to the scene and took off in a marked police SUV, Howard said.
Officers used the vehicle’s GPS to track the SUV — which led them near 99th and Green Streets where it was dumped.
Nothing was taken from the SUV and all four suspects remain at large.
