MILWAUKEE, WI — A tragic car accident has left a pedestrian dead between 35th and Lisbon and is being investigated by Milwaukee police.
The crash happened on May 3 just before 6:00am.
Police say a 27-year-old Milwaukee man ran a red light and crashed into a second vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old Wauwatosa woman.
The force of the accident spun the suspect’s car around and up onto the Milwaukee sidewalk.
A nearby pedestrian, a 39-year-old woman, was struck and killed as she stood on the corner. She was pronounced dead on the spot.
The medical examiner identified the victim as Yolanda Baxter.
The driver of the second vehicle that was hit was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The shocking accident was captured on surveillance video.
Yolanda Baxter was standing outside of “The Key Spot” corner store where she is a regular, at the time of the crash.
The Milwaukee store owner, Dominic Key, says it’s a dangerous corner.
“Six, seven accidents a week and I am talking about pretty bad ones. Not just fender benders,” Key said. “This is the first deadly one.”
Key further claims that he warns children not to linger around after buying their goodies.
The 27-year-old driver was arrested following the crash and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the charges, according to police.
