Cellphone shop owner guns down armed robber in Dominican Republic
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC — Surveillance video shows the moment a cellphone store owner opened fire on armed robbers during a heist, leaving one suspect dead and another injured.
The incident happened February 25 inside a phone shop in Villa Mella, where two armed men entered the store and threatened the owner and a customer at gunpoint.
Video shows the suspects forcing both men to raise their hands before quickly grabbing multiple phones from the counter. At one point, other people attempted to enter the store but were warned off by the suspects, who made it clear a robbery was in progress.
As the suspects prepared to leave with the stolen items, the store owner reached behind the counter and grabbed a firearm. When the gunmen turned their backs, he opened fire.
Both suspects were hit as they tried to flee. One collapsed and died at the scene, while the other was wounded and managed to escape. His condition and whereabouts remain unknown.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and it remains unclear if the surviving suspect has been captured.
