Chicago mother shot dead after fight with ex’s new girlfriend

CHICAGO – A 31-year-old woman was fatally shot Monday morning in Chicago’s South Loop following a confrontation, police say.

Investigators identified the victim as Romeca Meeks, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside a school just after 9 a.m. on the 2200 block of South State Street. She was taken to an area hospital where she died shortly after.

Online accounts and social media coverage suggest a domestic dispute may have led to the shooting. According to these reports, Meeks encountered her former partner, Carlos “Losos” Way, along with his new girlfriend — identified in various online sources as Holly Johnson — at the scene. Witnesses allege that during the exchange, Way physically restrained Meeks, and Johnson, a licensed concealed-carry holder, pulled a gun and shot her multiple times.

Aftermath of the shooting was captured on video, and the suspect was taken into custody at the scene. She claims to have acted in self-defense, citing a restraining order she had against Romeca Meeks.
