CHICAGO, IL — A Chicago Police officer shot and killed a 19-year-old suspect following a foot pursuit on the West Side’s Humboldt Park neighborhood in May.
The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. on May 29, near the 4300 block of West North Avenue.
Officers initiated a traffic stop that led to a foot chase down an alley.
Body-camera images show the suspect, later identified as Nathaniel Fejerang, struggling with officers before a firearm discharged, seriously injuring one officer in the leg.
Another officer then fired, fatally striking Fejerang. The wounded officer was taken to the hospital in serious condition, while Fejerang died at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police confirmed a weapon was recovered at the scene, and COPA continues to investigate the shooting.
