Investigation underway after Chicago police officer seen grabbing woman walking dog

An investigation is underway after video showed a Chicago Police officer violently confronting a woman walking her dog.

The incident unfolded early Saturday morning in Lincoln Park near the lakefront, according to a report from FOX 32 Chicago.

Video shows the officer walking up to Nikkita Brown, and getting close to her despite her request that he stay away because of COVID-19.

He tells her that since he is outside, he does not need to wear a mask, the report read.

Another video captured by bystanders shows the CPD officer grabbing Brown and struggling with her as her dog jumps frantically and tries to help her, the report said.

The woman and the officer both hold onto each other for a minute before they let go and each walk away.

Attorneys for Brown called the incident an “obvious case of racial profiling” that resulted in “emotional trauma” because of the “brutal, unprovoked and unlawful attack.”

Attorneys said Brown was walking her dog near the beach at around midnight when she was confronted by the officer because the beach closes at 11pm.

This is even though attorneys allege Brown, who is Black, saw other people, who were white, walking in the distance.

COPA said in a tweet Sunday that they were aware of the incident and video circulating on social media.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation, CBS Chicago reported.
