Driver killed after crashing vehicle during high-speed police pursuit in Los Angeles County, California

A pursuit suspect crashed and died on the 210 Freeway in Los Angeles County on Friday morning, officials confirmed.

The California Highway Patrol said the suspect driver was wanted for theft.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said that at around 10 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call of grand theft at a Target store in Camarillo.

After officers arrived, the driver fled, initiating a pursuit that went from Camarillo, through Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley.

CHP officers took over the chase around 10:50 a.m. in Los Angeles County.

Sky5 was overhead, and as of 11:15 a.m., all eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway had been stopped while officers were seen performing CPR and examining the driver, who appeared to be badly injured.

Paramedics also responded to the scene and started treating the suspect, but soon pronounced him dead at the scene.

Around 11:30 a.m., one lane was opened, but traffic was still heavily backed up for at least 2 miles.
