Driver killed after stolen car crashes into building in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY— A 41-year-old man was killed early Monday after crashing a stolen car into a building in Midwood.

The incident happened around 1:45 a.m. on Flatbush Avenue after the suspect stole a Honda Civic from a Lyft driver who had briefly left it unattended.

Police say the suspect sped off before slamming into a building, tearing the vehicle in half on impact. The force of the crash ripped a door off the structure and left the car’s engine and battery scattered across the street.

Witnesses described the explosion of debris as looking like “a bomb went off.”

The driver was found lying in the roadway and pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. His identity has not yet been released.
