A driver accused of plowing through protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge and injuring two people as they rallied on the anniversary of George Floyd’s death has been arrested.
Police say groups of protesters were marching back to Brooklyn at around 10pm Tuesday when the driver of a Volkswagen sedan, identified as 23-year-old Jason Alicea — tried to force is way through the pedestrian traffic.
One of the protesters jumped on the hood as the car tried to get past them on the Brooklyn side of the bridge — and Alicea “accelerated through the group,” an NYPD spokesperson said.
Alicea kept going for a few blocks with the person still on the car, and clipped another protester in the process.
While pursing Alicea, an NYPD police car clipped a third protester with its side-view mirror, knocking the 56-year-old man to the ground.
All three victims refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
