LOS ANGELES, Calif. — An employee was shot and a robbery suspect is dead following a shooting inside a Compton smoke shop in LA, according to new video and reports.
On April 3, 2022, at approximately 6:50pm, 23-year-old Kahlel Lundy and Keith Rachel, 21, tried to rob a smoke store in the 1500 block of S. Wilmington Avenue with two other men, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The four men attempted an armed robbery of the store, pointing their handguns at a store employee.
The employee, an armed security guard, drew his weapon and shots were fired.
The suspects fled the scene after leaving the smoke shop.
Officials say the guard was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the face and neck, but was later released.
Deputies responded to Martin Luther King Hospital about 30 minutes after the failed robbery regarding a man who had been shot. The gunshot victim turned out to be one of the smoke shop robbers who had been shot by the Compton store employee. He was treated, but later died at the hospital.
A second suspect was captured the next day by LASD, but Kahlel Lundy and Keith Rachel remain on the run.
Both Lundy and Rachel are wanted for murder, and the LASD Homicide Bureau is seeking the public’s help to find them.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call the Homicide Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at (323) 890-5500.
