Father and daughter on bicycle critically injured in Mexico hit-and-run

SAN MATEO ATENCO, Mexico — A father and his young daughter were seriously injured Monday morning after a pickup truck struck them while they were riding a bicycle to school, according to local authorities.

The crash happened around 6:22 a.m. on Chapultepec Street in the Santa María neighborhood. Security camera footage shows the man and child traveling along a side lane when a white Chevrolet pickup truck suddenly hit them, throwing both victims several feet onto the pavement.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victims critically injured.

Emergency responders from the municipal government arrived minutes later and transported the father and daughter to a nearby hospital, where both remain in serious condition under medical observation.

Officials said the city will provide legal and psychological support to the family. The municipal security department, traffic authorities, and civil protection agencies are assisting with the investigation.

After surveillance footage spread on social media, residents reportedly located the pickup truck near the El Fortín residential area. Neighbors blocked access to the property after identifying the suspected driver, demanding accountability.

Municipal police, state police, and members of the National Guard responded and detained the driver before the situation escalated further.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as prosecutors work to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
