Fight turns into shooting, hit-and-run in Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence police are investigating a violent altercation caught on video that escalated into gunfire and a hit-and-run Tuesday evening near Updike Street and Peace Street.
According to authorities, the fight involved multiple individuals. A witness video circulating online shows a large group engaged in a physical altercation.
In the footage, a man in a black hoodie appears to fire a gun toward a gray vehicle. Moments later, that same vehicle accelerates and strikes a person, knocking them to the ground next to what appears to be a baseball bat.
The victim was transported to the hospital. Their condition has not been released.
Police recovered a spent shell casing at the scene and continue to investigate. As of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities said the people present at the scene were largely uncooperative.
