Woman dead, man injured following fire on private bus in India

A woman is dead and her husband in critical condition after a fire broke out on a private bus in India.

The incident took place shortly after 9:30pm local time Tuesday in Hirabaug, in Surat’s Varachha suburb, according to local reports.

Dramatic videos posted to social media show the trapped victims engulfed in flames as locals attempt to rescue them from the burning bus.

30-year-old Taniya Navlani and her husband Vishal Navlani, 32, were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, where Taniya later succumbed to her injuries.

At least 16 passengers were on the bus when the fire broke out, officials said.

An investigation into what prompted the fire is underway.
