Firefighting airplane pilot crashes, dies after colliding with power line in Chile
A firefighting airplane pilot is dead after colliding with a power line and crashing on a runway in Chile.
SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile.- This Monday, a pilot of Spanish origin lost his life when the small plane he was using to fight a fire crashed in the central region of Maule, according to the National Forestry Corporation of Chile.
According to the executive director of the service, the pilot, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, held the position of “chief of Pilots in Spain” and had “extensive experience.”
According to initial reports, the pilot lost control of the aircraft when it “hit the electrical wiring”, resulting in it falling onto the highway in the vicinity of the city of Talca, located approximately 250 kilometers south of the capital.
In the incident, the aircraft collided with two vehicles, causing injuries of varying severity to four people.
