MELBOURNE, Fla.— A Florida woman is accused of telling two teens that she’ll “blow their heads off” as they were attempting to fish in a residential pond.
On March 28, a Melbourne woman called the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to report that she had “petrified” and “stopped” two boys who were fishing in her backyard.
The woman, 59-year-old Donna Elkins, told the deputy she walked out into her backyard with a pellet gun to “scare them,” an arrest affidavit said.
The 13 and 15-year-old boys told the deputy that they wanted to fish in the pond when Elkins emerged from her home, armed with a long black pellet gun, and pointed it at them.
According to the report, Elkins told them she would “blow their heads off” and ordered them to the ground.
Out of fear of being shot, the teens said they laid on the ground for about five minutes until Elkins’ husband came out of their home and disarmed her.
“I have a right to protect my property and my house,” Elkins is heard saying in the video captured by the 15-year-old boy.
The deputy reviewed the property lines, discovering the two boys were on the peninsula near the pond, located approximately 30 feet beyond Elkins’ property. That peninsula is owned by the Baytree development district.
“I hope she gets what she deserves,” the 15-year-old said.
Elkins was arrested for two counts of aggravated assault and false imprisonment. She was taken to the Brevard County Jail and is being held without bond.
