Georgia police rescue children from hot car, father charged with cruelty

COBB COUNTY, GA — Police in Georgia rescued two young children after they were left inside a scorching vehicle for nearly 40 minutes in a mall parking lot, according to released bodycam footage.

The incident occurred on June 4 at Cumberland Mall. A concerned caller reported seeing a small boy and girl crying inside a closed car. Officers responded swiftly, confirming the interior temperature had reached 117°F.

Body camera video shows police breaking a window, freeing the children—aged around 1 and 2—and comforting them with water and reassurances (“It’s OK, baby,” one officer said). Medics checked the children at a nearby hospital; neither is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Their father, J’quawn Dixon, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree cruelty to children. He was booked, released on bond around $10–11k, and remains under investigation.

Cobb County police praised the quick thinking of the 911 caller, stating “Your quick action is the reason these kids are safe today.”
