Group of individuals chase knife-wielding man moments before vendor shot near Times Square

NEW YORK — A food cart vendor was shot in Times Square on Wednesday morning after a dispute with a group of young people, according to the NYPD.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. near 7th Avenue and W. 47th Street.

NYPD Chief of Department John Chell told the station that as the group crossed the street, one of them turned and shot multiple times in the direction of the vendors, hitting one in the arm. The man is expected to be OK.

Chell added that three people were apprehended in the subway.

“Looks like this group walked across 47th Street, one stepped back into the middle of the street, fires down toward the vendors,” Chell said on Good Day New York. “But a good quick response, at least, we think we have him off the street.”
