Gym video shows Brazil bodybuilder tear quad tendon during leg press
A Brazilian bodybuilder suffered a major leg injury during a training session when he ruptured his quadriceps tendon while performing a heavy leg press, according to local reporting.
The incident occurred on January 22 at a gym in Teresina, in Brazil’s Piauí state. Thirty-one-year-old Ranieri Lopes Filho was attempting a leg press with 400 kilograms of weight when the tendon that connects his quadriceps muscle to his kneecap snapped. Lopes Filho recorded the moment on video.
Lopes Filho, who has trained for about ten years and was preparing for a bodybuilding competition in May, underwent surgery the day after the injury.
Gym patrons helped remove the weights and provided first aid before an ambulance took him to a private hospital, where doctors evaluated him and performed the operation.
After surgery, Lopes Filho was instructed to keep his leg fully straight for three weeks and begin physical therapy to maintain muscle activity. Full recovery is expected to take several months, and he will not resume strenuous leg training until later in the year.
