CALIFORNIA — An allegedly armed man shot and killed by Huntington Beach Police has been identified as 43-year-old Ronnie Andrew Garcia.
The officer-involved shooting took place Saturday afternoon at around 3:15pm following reports about a man with a gun at Huntington City Beach, police said in a press release.
Video of the incident shows Garcia holding what appears to be a weapon under a piece of clothing while officers demand he drop it.
When Garcia failed to comply, officers opened fire — striking him in the abdomen, subsequently knocking him to the ground, according to the footage.
As he laid on the ground, Garcia can be seen frantically reaching for the bundle. Officers fired multiple additional rounds, the video shows.
First aid was rendered at the scene and Garcia was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Authorities said they recovered a gun at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
