JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released bodycam video Friday of a deadly officer involved shooting that took place last April.
43-year-old Kevin Mahan was shot and killed by a police officer on April 21.
JSO initially responded to the 7200 block of Morse Avenue for a person described as mentally ill.
Throughout the encounter, Mahan brandished a hatchet and the officer shot him once in the head, killing Mahan at the scene.
The video shows the moments before the officer shot Mahan, the actual shooting and the aftermath.
JSO has not identified the officer because he requested to be under Marsy’s law. A police official said the officer is back to work and no longer on administrative leave. However, the investigation is ongoing.
