KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department has released the body camera footage from the two officers who were involved in a shooting that left a man dead at a home in West Knoxville.
The bodycam footage was made available on Wednesday, May 8. The shooting occurred when the two officers, identified by KPD as Hunter Powers and Cayden Riddle, were responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 4700 block of Santala Drive just before 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27 when they encountered a man armed with a firearm.
KPD said as the officers approached the home, they heard a female victim in distress, entered the home and announced themselves; then, almost simultaneously, they encountered Jamauri Griffin, 25, who was armed with a gun. KPD said Griffin shot the woman and officers fired in response, striking Griffin at least one time.
Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 23-year-old woman was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
