LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Body cam footage has been released showing a Louisville Metro Police officer firing at an armed man during a tense standoff in the Parkland neighborhood on July 2.
Officers responded to a home on the 2900 block of Dumesnil Street after reports that Garad Amir Garad was armed, intoxicated, and making suicidal threats while five family members were also inside the home. Officer Andrew Posante approached the scene and located Garad on a second-floor balcony. When Posante noticed Garad had a weapon, he ordered him to drop it and drew his own gun.
Garad retreated into the home, prompting Posante to issue several commands for him to throw the gun into the yard. After one shot was fired by the officer and no compliance, Posante fired four additional rounds into the home. Garad eventually tossed his weapon into the yard and surrendered. He did not fire any shots during the encounter.
According to police, Garad’s wife reported he had punched and strangled her until she lost consciousness, and his sister said he also punched her. Garad faces charges including strangulation, assault, and wanton endangerment.
Officer Posante has been placed on paid administrative leave while LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit investigates the incident.
