Man arrested in Pierce County after driving through crosswalk with students crossing

PIERCE COUNTY, Washington — A 34-year-old man was arrested after deputies say he drove through a school crosswalk while a crossing guard and student were in the roadway.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on February 10 during dismissal at Glacier Middle School. Surveillance video shows the driver ignoring the crossing guard’s commands to stop as students were actively crossing.

Authorities say the man continued through the crosswalk while the guard was standing in the roadway and a student was attempting to cross.

Deputies reviewed the footage the next day and developed probable cause to arrest the driver on charges including reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

When deputies located the vehicle parked in the school’s bus loop, the man refused to exit. After several minutes, a deputy broke the window and removed him from the car.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of reckless driving, two counts of driving with a suspended license, and resisting arrest.
