Man attacks woman with gun at north Indianapolis gas station
INDIANAPOLIS — A man is facing charges for allegedly attacking a woman at a north Indianapolis gas station.
The terrifying encounter was caught on camera near 56th and Emerson Avenue Tuesday just before 4:30 p.m.
In the video, you can see a man holding a pistol to a woman’s head as she tries to get away. At one point, the video shows him pointing the gun at her after he walked away.
“There was so much for me to think about, but that bullet was my main worry,” said Kevin Edwards, who witnessed the argument and recorded the video.
Edwards said in the video you can see the man and woman initially confronting each other after the man honked several times at the woman while she was sitting at an inoperable gas pump.
According to court documents, the man said the woman got of her car and pointed a gun at him — a claim which she denies.
“Words were exchanged, he got to calling her racial slurs, and she didn’t like that and probably wasn’t comfortable with it from what I’m going to assume, but that’s when he pulled the gun and, as you can see in the video, he’s choking her against the car,” said Edwards.
In the court documents, the man admits to police that he told the woman he was going to “blow her head off.”
“The fear of having a firearm placed in your face, at your head, and words uttered in which a threat is made, that’s inexcusable and that’s scary and life altering for this victim,” said IMPD Ofc. Tommy Thompson.
Thompson said this is a prime example of people not using their words to solve problems.
“We, as adults, have to do better. We in society have to do better. We cannot resort to conflict resolution that yields a firearm to solve a problem,” he said.
Thompson said when arguments start to escalate, people just need to walk away and take a breath.
The man in the video has been arrested for intimidation with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, strangulation, criminal recklessness, battery resulting in injury, and pointing a loaded firearm.
As for formal charges, they have not been filed.
