Man beaten and robbed at gunpoint in Chicago Fulton Market attack
A 49-year-old man was beaten and robbed at gunpoint Thursday afternoon in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood, according to police.
The attack happened around 4:23 p.m. in the 200 block of North Peoria Street. Police say two male suspects approached the man while he was standing near the sidewalk. One suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s property while the second suspect physically assaulted him.
After taking the victim’s belongings, the suspects fled the scene in an SUV. The victim declined medical treatment at the scene.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video that shows the victim being pinned down and struck while pedestrians were nearby. Chicago police said Area Three detectives are continuing to search for the suspects.
Local business leaders expressed concern following the incident, calling for stronger visible enforcement and expanded camera coverage in the Fulton Market area. City officials say police presence in the neighborhood is expected to increase while the investigation continues.
