Man killed in crossfire while making crossword puzzle on sidewalk in Brazil

A man was killed in the crossfire of a shooting between rival criminal factions while making a crossword puzzle on a sidewalk in Brazil.

“The man who died after being shot by mistake while doing a crossword puzzle had sat on the sidewalk to rest when criminals started shooting, says the Military Police (PM). Security cameras recorded the exact moment the 65-year-old man was shot.

The Hospital de Urgências de Goiás Dr. Valdemiro Cruz reported that the elderly man, who was in serious condition and admitted to the unit, died this Friday morning (1st) after failing to resist his injuries. The victim was shot on Thursday night (30), in Setor Parque das Nações, in Aparecida de Goiânia.

Until the last update of this article, a 16-year-old teenager suspected of shooting into the air was arrested in Bairro Independência. The other man who appears in the video shooting at the elderly man has been identified. Their names were not disclosed.

According to the PM, the crime happened on Thursday night (30), at the door of a distributor.

In the video, initially, it is possible to see the elderly man sitting on the sidewalk next to a can of soda and reading the crossword puzzle. Two other boys also appear in the footage. Then, two other men arrive and appear to be talking to the young men standing there, who then walk towards the victim.

At that moment, the teenager pulled out a gun and fired into the air. The other man also takes a gun from his waist and shoots at the elderly man, who is hit by the shot and falls to the ground. Then the two men run away. When apprehended, the teenager said that the target was not the victim.

The teenager said that the targets were the other two boys in the video, who were his rivals from a criminal faction specializing in drug trafficking in the region.”
