LOUISIANA — Video posted to YouTube shows the moment a man knocked another man unconscious following a verbal confrontation in a Mandeville’s parking lot Monday.
Police said the December 13 incident stemmed after the suspect, identified as Richard Suarez, began arguing with several women after parking his vehicle in the emergency lane outside of a busy shopping center on Highway 190.
According to the video, another man then intervened and both men exchanged words. The two disappear behind a vehicle and that’s when police say Suarez punched the man, knocking him unconscious to the ground.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where his condition is unclear.
Suarez fled the scene before Mandeville police arrived at the scene, but was arrested Monday night after checking himself into the veterans hospital for an unknown reason, according to police.
He faces charges of second-degree battery, simple assault and disturbing the peace — and is currently being held at the St. Tammany Parish Jail on a $1 million bond.
