Video shows a man setting a sleeping homeless person on fire in Brazil.

“A 17-year-old was arrested for setting fire to a homeless man and broadcasting the crime live on social media. The violent act occurred last Tuesday (18) in the Pechincha neighborhood, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro. The teenager was arrested on Thursday (20).

During the broadcast, around 220 people were watching the event. According to the Civil Police, the minor is linked to a group that promotes and incites hate crimes on digital platforms. The operation was supported by CiberLab/Diopi, a cyber operations laboratory of the Ministry of Justice, which managed to identify the young man and inform the police.

The victim of the attack was taken to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, where he received treatment for third-degree burns, affecting 60% of his body.

The teenager’s arrest was made easier after his grandmother informed the police that he planned to flee the day after the crime. He was taken to the 41st Police Precinct (Tanque), where authorities found a cell phone with material promoting Nazism.

During the approach, the police also seized masks, gloves and glasses used by the young man at the time of the criminal act.

The teenager was indicted for several crimes, including attempted triple-qualified murder, criminal association and supporting Nazism. The Child and Adolescent Victims Police Station continues investigations to identify other possible individuals involved in the incident.”
