OAKLAND: Man shot while trying to stop robbery in Chinatown

CALIFORNIA — A man was shot and another injured during a violent robbery in Oakland’s Chinatown Saturday, surveillance video shows.

The robbery turned shooting unfolded at around 2pm Saturday near the corner of Eighth and Franklin streets, reports say.

Two suspects tried to rob two women of their purses when a man apparently with them tried to intervene.

A struggle ensued and the man was beaten and pistol whipped. Another man also tried to intervene. That man was shot by at least one of the suspects who both had guns, reports say.

The suspects then got back into their car and fled the scene without taking anything, according to police.

The gunshot victim was hit in the arm and thigh, according to a statement.
