Man steals Brink truck driver’s bag of cash at convenience store in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities arrested a 21-year-old man accused of robbing a Brink’s truck driver in west Franklin County on Wednesday.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the driver pulled up to a convenience store located at 2800 Valley View Dr. off of North Hague around 9:15 a.m.

Surveillance video shows the Brink’s truck driver servicing an ATM. Franklin County Municipal Court documents say the Brink’s employee was refilling the machine. A man was standing a few feet behind the driver.

The video shows the man staring at the driver for a few seconds before grabbing the bag and running out the door. The sheriff’s office said the driver chased the man for a moment, but he got away in a dark-colored Ford SUV. Documents say the bag contained about $10,000 to $25,000.

Detectives took the surveillance video from inside the store and used AI software to help identify the suspect. The software returned a possible match of 21-year-old Yelon Shepherd from a previous arrest last year.

Detectives arrested Shepherd around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He is charged with robbery and felony theft. His arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning.
