SPANAWAY, Wash. — A man was shot and killed by law enforcement in Pierce County Tuesday morning after he allegedly shot at Washington State Patrol troopers on Interstate 5 and then again following a pursuit.
Deputies said the incident occurred at around 10:15 a.m., when a trooper made a traffic stop at SR 512 and Steele Rd in Parkland.
According to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss Jr., the man was shooting at a trooper on I-5 during the traffic stop before other agencies got involved in the pursuit, which ended at Sixth Avenue and 205th Street in Spanaway. The trooper then radioed in a description of the vehicle and the direction that it was traveling.
Moss said there was “additional shooting by the suspect” after the pursuit ended and law enforcement “did engage the suspect.”
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries or crashes have been reported, according to officials.
