Mechanical ride malfunctions at San Miguel fair in Mexico, multiple injured
SAN FELIPE, Mexico — Surveillance video captured the moment a mechanical ride malfunctioned during the San Miguel de Arcángel and Pottery Fair on Sunday, September 28, sending visitors into panic.
Authorities said the “Booster” ride suffered a structural failure when one of its axles broke, causing part of the ride to collapse with riders still on board. Emergency crews were called immediately, and firefighters worked with cranes to stabilize the structure and rescue those trapped.
The rescue operation lasted nearly 40 minutes before the riders were freed and treated at the fair’s medical area. Local reports varied on the number of victims, with some outlets saying five people were injured and others reporting only two with minor injuries. No fatalities were confirmed.
Officials announced that all rides at the fair will undergo inspection before reopening. A formal investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the malfunction and establish responsibility.
