NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A man was fatally shot by a Nashville Police officer Monday morning after he charged at the officer with a gun.
The incident unfolded just before 9 a.m. near Hermitage Avenue and Lea Avenue after police received a 911 call reporting a man with a gun acting erratically in the area.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Robert Weaver located the armed individual and issued multiple commands for him to drop the weapon.
The man ignored the orders and charged directly at Weaver while still holding the firearm.
Body camera footage released shows the officer shouting “Drop the gun!” moments before opening fire.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The medical examiner is working to determine the man’s identity.
