Near miss on I-95 as SUV nearly hits officers at crash scene

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —A Veterans Service Organization sergeant and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper were almost hit by an SUV on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says.

VSO and FHP were on the scene responding to a car vs. deer crash that occurred overnight.

The SUV ran off the highway, hitting the VSO patrol vehicle, smashing into the back of the car that had hit the deer, and then spinning back onto I-95, where it came to rest.

At this time  it is unclear what caused the SUV to run off the highway.

Authorities urge drivers to stay alert for emergency lights and move over for first responders, service vehicles, and disabled vehicles on the side of the road.
