New video shows moments prior to White Castle shooting in Minneapolis

MINNESOTA — Newly released video shows the moment a man was shot dead at a White Castle restaurant in Minneapolis.

Lionell J. Hicks, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 32-year-old Tu’Quan Lee Smith last August 15.

At around 1:55am that day, Minneapolis police officers responded to a call of shots fired outside the White Castle on West Lake Street.

Upon arrival, they found Smith with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told investigators Hicks shot into Smith’s car from the backseat of the vehicle he was riding in after the two exchanged words as Smith was trying to exit the drive-thru.
